Prescribing Information

COMPOSITION:

CALPHOSANŽ solution (injectable), each 10 ml. contains 50 mg. calcium glycerophosphate, 50 mg. calcium lactate and 0.25% phenol (as preservative), in a physiological solution of sodium chloride. CALPHOSANŽ is isotonic, with a pH of about 7 or somewhat above. (Other solutions are usually quite acid, with pH values of 4.5 to 5.5).

ADVANTAGES:

Intramuscular injections of CALPHOSANŽ raise blood serum calcium levels, but do not raise the calcium levels above normal.

Of conspicuous importance, intramuscular injections of CALPHOSAN are without pain, inflammatory reactions or sloughing.

ADMINISTRATION:

10 ml; 1 to 4 times weekly or as determined by the physician.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

Hypercalcemia: in view of the fact that hypercalcemia is associated with sarcoidosis and bone metastasis of neoplastic processes, it should not be used in those conditions. As there is a similarity in the actions of calcium and digitalis on the contractility and excitability of the heart muscle, CALPHOSANŽ is contraindicated in fully digitalized patients. DO NOT USE INTRAMUSCULARLY IN INFANTS AND YOUNG CHILDREN.

AVAILIBILITY:

60 ml. multiple dose vials
NDC 0516-0060-60

Rx Only
